Getting that sporting feeling

We may have just suffered the inevitable disappointment of England’s early exit from the European Championships but the now, sadly rather standard media response to this sort of thing, has not really hit this time round.  There has been the usual post match analysis and questions about England’s inability to win penalty shootouts, but the story only graced the front pages for a day before being relegated to the sporting section at the back.  As for the public response, no one seems that perturbed and national pride appears barely dented. Why is this?

We’re sure it’s no coincidence that the Championships fell at a time when the best of Britain’s sporting year is yet to come. Wimbledon kicked off yesterday bringing with it the ever optimistic promise of Andy Murray getting to the final, and maybe even lifting the trophy?  Even if this is not Murray’s year, with the promise of thrilling matches, giant killing, tantrums, broken rackets, plenty of tears and an epic final battle this is one British stage show that no one wants to miss. Wimbledon is a classic example of Britain’s ability to hold a major sporting event and, what is more put on a brilliant show.  Doubters of our ability to host the Olympics successfully should take stock and remember this.

The drama at Wimbledon is a mere opening act in comparison to the spectacle that will be the London 2012 Olympics (or so our friends in the know have told us)!  Home athletes historically collect a record medal haul, with the Aussies, Chinese and the Greeks achieving a personal best medal number across the board when they hosted.  Can Team GB repeat this?  We think they can, we achieved a record number in Beijing giving us a great base to build. #HomeAdvantage has been trending on twitter for two weeks already and British Airways have launched their latest ad campaign encouraging people not to fly during the Olympics, which can’t help but stir up patriotism. We believe that Britain and Team GB are going to blow the opposition away by putting on a spectacular show and performance, and we really can’t wait!
